Letters of Kenneth Ford Jr to his family. The letters begin with his boot camp training in 1968 at Camp Pendleton, CA to his tour of duty in Vietnam in 1969. The last letter is before he was accidentally killed in December of 1969. Ken was asleep in his bunk at night when his rifle was knocked over and discharged, killing Ford.
These letters were to his parents sister and two brothers on Orchard Street in Newark. His sister was a Sr at Newark High School, his brothers were in elementary school. Kenny will refer to a knife in his letters, this was a Bowie knife he had here that he wanted in Vietnam, however it needed a black sheath. They were trying to get one made here for it but it took awhile, He did receive the knife and new sheath.
His body was returned to Newark and a funeral was held December 26, 1969. Please refer to his other Veteran record for more information.
